Albin Kurti beaten by Serb guardians after sentencing
Prishtina, March 19 (Kosovapress) - A former inmate of the Pozharevac prison said that Albin Kurti was severely beaten after receiving his sentence.
Izet Sejfiu of Peja, who was released from the Pozharevac prison in Serbia on March 17, said that the Kosovar Albanian student leader was severely beaten by Serb guardians of the prison after having returned to the prison from Nish, Serbia, where he had been tried and sentenced to 15 years.
Sejfiu said that he informed the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the development, as well as several other humanitarian organizations working in Kosova.
Albin Kurti, a Kosovar Albanian student leader and peaceful protest organizer, was sentenced on March 13 to 15 years imprisonment on trumped up charges of "terrorism" and "activity against the state." During the trial Kurti delcared that he does not recognize the court, charging it to be an instrument of the regime of Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, and refused to have a defense lawyer assigned to him.
